The season was never meant to bring a title shot. The season was never meant to produce all stars, all OBWL team awards or many other highlights that would inspire the city.
We knew all this, so what did we expect? To be honest not this. What is this?
William Cole. The 7’2” Centre who has been potentially the only bright spot this season. He has been averaging 12.3 points and 6.8 rebounds a game. Locking in the starting centre spot for the Lumberjacks, his PER is at 17.9 and has a fair bit of room to grow. It is hoped by the lumberjacks staff that he will continue to develop and become a menacing force in the league.
Following the unexpected play of Cole are the four draft picks Lumberjacks are bringing into the next draft. With so many of the opinion that there just wasn’t much talent on the roster, the fact GM Trent was able to get 3 additional draft picks for players that were expiring means there is some cheap talent to look at give a shot to develop.
These four players with Tony Myrick might gel over the next few season and become a force in the league, but until the draft class officially declare, no one knows what will come of the picks.
Even though the Lumberjacks have a heap of cap space this coming off season, it is not expected that they will be a major player in the FA frenzy about to hit our shores. It appears that they will continue to build in the draft by trying to acquire picks. The trade dead line is close so it is unsure if there will be anymore deals? But they will continue to shop their players on expiring contracts, looking for a trade partner.
This rebuild will be a long process, how long? Only time will tell.
