Frank Mask ERA Over

The Frank Mask ERA in Chicago has ended.  Unfortunately for everyone involved, it wasn’t much of an ERA.  When acquired in 2021 from the Sharks, the team had hoped he would evolve into a good squad player.  While Frank always put in the effort, he never really developed more than a decent D-League player.  In the 3 seasons with the Blaze, Frank got into 11 and started 5.  On 12/13/2021, he had a night to remember.  In that game he went 11-11 from the field scoring 23 points and winning player of the game.  Some thought that was going to be his coming out party, but instead he couldn’t improve much on it and was stuck in the D-League all of 2022.  This season has pretty much been DNP wherever he was, so maybe this change of scenery will do him some good.  So where is he going?  He is now taking his services to warm San Diego as the Blaze have traded him straight up for PG Bertram Hayes.

Bertram was drafted #9 in the first round in 2022 by the Storm, but he has not lived up to the billing for a #9 pick.  So much so that the Storm declined his option and he has just been a bench player in the D-League.  Like Mask, he needed a change of scenery and hopefully for him and the Blaze he can jump start his career again.  The word on the street is that when Bertram arrives he will be inserted right into the rotation.

“Bertram Hayes was a guy we looked at in the draft in 2022 and even thought about making a deal to acquire a pick to draft him, but he was picked about 3 picks earlier than we thought.  When I saw that he might be available, I made the phone call and it was agreed upon in minutes.  While it would have been nice if he had 1 more year on his contract to assess him, we are confident that with the playing time he should receive that will be able to make an informed decision on his future here, “said GM Greg Abcarian.

“I can’t wait for this new opportunity.  While my time with the Storm might not have been what anyone wanted, this is a new start.  I am confident I will be able to perform at the level people expect of me and that I expect of myself.  To the fans in Chicago, hopefully you will remember the name Bertram Hayes for a long time, “said Bertram Hayes.
