JAY AMADO QUITS, GIBSON HIRED

The Philadelphia Americans were shocked with the sudden departure of their long time GM Jay Amado who left the organisation for the swamp lands, beaches and people running from their past. Jay now calls Florida home. With little time and a coaching roster to assemble the American organisation received a call from former Minnesota GM Steve Gibson applying for the role. Despite the roller coaster of a ride that was the Minnesota Marauders and two seasons out of the system Gibson obviously said the right things to secure the position.

NEW HEAD COACH IN TOWN

Gibson's first job was to secure a Head Coach and an Assistant Coach. The Americans secured Fidel Pelaez who was high on the shortlist of candidates for the senior role to a three year deal. Pelaez enjoyed a 5 year stint with the Manhattan Swing where he steered that team to the playoffs four out of his five years as Head Coach but with just two playoff wins to his credit both he and the newly appointed GM are hoping for better results that hinge largely on a highly successful regular season. Jiang Qiáo was also hired as an assistant on a one year deal, the Americans will be looking to improving their coaching staff greatly in the near future.

GIBSON AND JENKINS REUNITED

The Americans were well aware of the availability of Michael Jenkins. Gibson's history with Jenkins in Minnesota played a huge part in the deal and the Americans coaching staff believe the squad is capable of playing a high tempo game where players like Jenkins can play and thrive. In this case Jenkins wont be relied upon to do the bulk of the scoring like he was when an aging Andrew Bordo began slowing down. Instead Jenkins can blend in with the scorers the Americans already have at every position on the court. Before draft day the Americans pulled the trigger on the trade to bring in more speed and scoring power trading out big man Kevin Gordon and youngster Garrett Bennett for Michael Jenkins and Junior Lammers from the Indiana Invaders.

WHERE'S THE POINT GUARDS AT?

If there is one area on the court the Americans need to improve it is the point guard position. Stan McClelland has largely been assigned the duty of court general but as gifted as he his, a point guard he is not. After failing to secure a guard in the draft the Americans need to convince a speedy guard to join their ranks or craft a trade that will land them a genuine distributor without selling the farm. Cap space is non existent for the Americans and wont be for years to come so the Americans need to make it happen one way or another.
