Los Angeles Among The Best In 2028

The Los Angeles Chaos have held down the best record in the league until just recently. A short string of losses has changed the standings up a bit, but the Chaos are still sitting near the top. They are currently tied for the 6th best record in the league and tied for 3rd place in the American Conference. For a team that did not make the playoffs last year, this is a big improvement.

The key to LA's success seems to be attributed to the tough defensive presence being displayed by all those big men on the roster. The Chaos have essentially been starting 3 centers. It seems kind of a gamble, but it sure has paid off. Andrew Culbertson has been playing Center and Jared Carlton has filled the Power Forward position. That seems normal, but Geoffrey Askew who played Center last season and is 6'11", weighing 274 pounds, is playing at the Small Forward position. Askew certainly isn't the first OBWL player of this stature that has played the SF position, but it is irregular. This defensive force of the Chaos has put them at 6th place in the league for points allowed at 97.5 ppg and 5th place in blocked shots per game. The Chaos are also 1st in the league in steals with 11.3 per game. That's some pretty good defense.

The Chaos' offensive numbers are pretty good too. They are averaging 104.8 ppg, which is good enough for 12th place in the league. This average was higher just last week until the Chaos fell into a bit of a slump and lost 3 of their last 5 games.

What is surprising is that the team is doing these things without a lot of help from Renato Ardoin, who has taken a much reduced role for the team. Ardoin has been coming of the bench and playing for about 27 minutes each game. Ardoin is definitely not the dominant scorer he once was, but he gives the team a good 10 points per contest.

Could it be that the Chaos' recent slump has come because they have had a weak schedule starting out and not faced many of the better teams in the league. That is possible and time will tell what the Chaos are really like. The Chaos face their rivals, the Archers in the next matchup. The Archers were off to a slow start, but have been racking up wins as of late. This will be a great game to watch.
